In November, 2002, SW Milliken II, LLC acquired approximately 283 acres of farm land located three miles northeast of the Town of Milliken, Colorado, just off of State Highway 60 (Three Rivers Pkwy) on Weld County Road 396 (adjacent to the South Platte River). The subject property is situated on both the north and south sides of the South Platte River and it is near the Big Thompson River.
Aggregate Industries, Inc., predecessor to Aggregate Industries - WCR, Inc. (collectively, “AI”), obtained a permit from the Division of Mining and Geology (the “DMG) in 2000 for mining the site’s sand and gravel resources. The DMG Permit provides that AI will mine approximately 285 acres of land. The sand and gravel deposit as varying between 17 to 35 feet deep and the overburden and topsoil as varying between depths of zero to 11 feet deep, with approximately 14.8 million tons of mineral resources. As of June, 2006, there is no anticipated commencement date for the mining. AI entered into a 15-year gravel royalty lease with SW Milliken II, LLC. Although AI has not commenced mining, AI is obligated to pay a non-refundable annual minimum royalty payment to SW Milliken II, LLC.
Once mined, the land will be reclaimed to include approximately 162 surface acres, varying in depths, for a total of approximately 3,000 acre feet of water storage, in a series of ponds and will additionally create a large wetlands area.
Purchase of the potential water storage is open to discussion.
