Denver Wells, LLC

Denver Wells, LLC, an associate entity of Southwestern Investment Group, Inc., recently obtained new permits from the State Engineer Office for construction and re-drilling replacement wells for a group of four deep aquifer wells that Denver Wells owns and for one deep aquifer well (known as the Stockyard Deep Well) for which Denver Wells has a marketing relationship with the well’s owner.

Aquifer Sources (Formations) and Well Decrees
These five wells have nontributary water rights in the Arapahoe Formation, the Upper Arapahoe Formation, the Lower Arapahoe Formation and the Laramie-Fox Hills Formation aquifers. The four wells owned originally appropriated water as early as 1926 and the wells predate Colorado Senate Bill 5 and they are not bound by the 100-year aquifer life span, the two percent (2%) relinquishment requirement of newer wells, and the water appropriation is not tied to land ownership. The Stockyard Deep Well predates Senate Bill 213 and enjoys the same benefits as the other four wells.

The water from these aquifers is some of the best in the area – used in bottled water by other water companies in the region. As non-tributary water, it does not need to have contaminants from farming and in-stream flows removed and treated prior to consumption.

Uses of the Water
The decreed uses of the water for the four owned wells are as follows: "The beneficial uses of the water from said wells are industrial, commercial, domestic, irrigation, fire fighting, and municipal uses." At the time that the decrees were entered, augmentation was not included as a beneficial use under the terms of ‘municipal uses’. The Stockyard Deep Well is currently decreed for industrial and stock watering uses.

Construction of New Wells: Located just north of Interstate 70 in the Denver metropolitan area, construction of a new well was completed in the Spring of 2006. Water is flowing to the South Platte River from Webber Well #1 and Webber Well #3 via an abandoned storm sewer. A second well at 26th & Curtis was recently drilled and came on line in November 2007.

The new well for the remaining site is expected to be completed during the Spring of 2008. Easement Agreements with a 30-year (renewable) term are fully executed with the City and County of Denver to discharge water through storm sewer facilities.
